New Voices
A playwrighting programme for teenagers that took place at the Hawk’s Well Theatre in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Over the course of nine weeks, the participants were guided to write their own plays, which were then performed as a rehearsed reading by professional actors on the Hawk’s Well stage.
Feedback from participants:
“I feel I have grown as an artist because seeing your work come to life on a stage really has an affect on you, it gives you a huge sense of confidence and pride.”
“I feel like I have become a lot more confident in my writing.”
“Thank you so so much for this wonderful experience, it's incredibly beneficial and I would 100 percent recommend it to other young people.”
Youth City at the Well
A series of drama workshops with Cranmore Co-op’s youth club, Youth City, in 2024. These workshops culminated in a performance of scenes created in collaboration with the children on the Hawk’s Well stage.
“Well done to all involved. It was such a joyful child-centred, child-led display of fun and confidence.” - Marie Brennan, Chairperson Cranmore Co-op.
Creative Writing for Wellbeing workshops with Domestic Violence Advocacy Service
An on-going programme of creative writing workshops for women who access the services of local charity, Domestic Violence Advocacy Service.
Feedback from participants:
“I really enjoyed the workshop, and l got so much more out of it than l expected. I feel it was very well facilitated whereby writing, sharing, and learning from each other organically (primarily down to Miriam) occurred. Miriam, with her natural ability, helped me and the others find inner thoughts and a way to express them via visual, musical and verbal prompting means. I had the feeling of being in a safe space/place to share my words and experiences.”
“I liked how the workshop was facilitated in a gentle, respectful, and meaningful way. I was supported by prompts, praise, and encouragement in a non judgmental way. I laughed and cried my way through it, and l learned to embrace participation in the company of other women coming from very difficult experiences.”
“I loved every single bit of it, especially the sharing of ideas and participants pieces of writing. It was all so lovely, so relaxing, so encouraging and great fun! Miriam is an excellent facilitator and brought out the best and the hidden talents in all of us. I went there thinking I couldn't write but discovered through Miriam’s encouragement that I actually can!”
